From the Heart

Life is a mix of emotions in the many matters of the heart:
FROM THE HEART
Sorrow at the loss of a friend,
Joy at the marriage feast of the Lamb.
FROM THE HEART
Fear and anger at gunmen on beach,
Heart beating for a better world.
FROM THE HEART
Recognition of my own imperfections,
Hope and celebration at our anniversary.
FROM THE HEART
O HEART, BREAK FOR HATE AND IMPERFECTION
O HEART, BEAT FOR LOVE, JOY, PEACE AND JUSTICE

Lost and Found

Lord we pray for the lost.
Those lost physically, mentally, emotionally.
We pray for those lost in poverty and need.
We also pray for those spiritually lost in sin and confusion.
Thank you that you have come to set the captives free.
We pray that you would use us to help those who are lost.
Lord that the lost would be found.
That more would be able to say, "I once was lost, but now am found!"
Amen

A Statement of Faith

(1) Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh, and apart from Him the true God can not fully be known, worshipped, or acknowledged. Jesus is fully revealed as the God who is love and whose gospel is peace.

 (2) Salvation is by faith in the atoning blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, apart from all human works and character. It is by Grace we are saved not by works, it is a gift from God, obtained through faith.

(3) It is the supreme obligation of every saved person to obey the Lord Jesus Christ. We will fail no doubt often in this for we are mere humans - but our aim should be holiness. The two golden rules are to love God and love each other (even to love enemies). This is the kind of active faith that can change the world for the better.

These three points are the pillars of my faith - the deity of Christ, salvation by faith in Him, obedience to His word.
Do you believe these three things and if not why not take it into consideration?

(Based loosely on a statement I read once, source unknown).

Post a Prayer

Do you have a prayer on your heart? If so why not share it here in the comments section. You are also welcome to add a link back to your own website (as long as it is family friendly). God bless.

Counting Blessings

Lord your blessings are numerous as the grains of sand on the seashore.
As multiple as the stars in the universe.
To count all your deeds is impossible for man.
You O God are the blessed blesser who blesses.
You are kind and gracious.
Blessed be your name.

Manna

My life and soul were parched.
In a proverbial land of hunger and thirst, dispair seemed inevitable.
I cryed to you like many times before.
You Lord are faithful.
Like Moses striking the rock my thirst was quenched.
Like Manna from heaven my hunger was satisfied.
You are faithful from generation to generation.
Blessed be your name.
Amen.

Finders Keepers

I seek you.
I long for you.
I seek with all my heart.

In this world of sin,
We need a saviour.
"Seek and ye shall find."
So, I seek, I hunt, I yearn.

I sought you, you whom my soul loves. I found you... You found me.

In sackcloth and ashes I am found.
You call me son, though I say servant.

So I arise.
You embrace me, "Abba!"
Thankyou for loving me as I am, not just as I should be.

Thankyou for finding me, for keeping me.

Your Grace

Your Grace is sufficient.
Your Sacrafice our hope.
We are broken.
You are broken - broken for us.
We are beautiful.
You are beautiful - beauty for us.
You hear our cry.
You heal our hearts.
Blessed be Your name.
Amen.

Abba

Abba,You are Father You are King
Tender as a lamb Triumphant as a lion
To whom else can we turn?
Where else do we find hope?
The kings of earth perish.
The fathers of earth fail.
But, you O God stand true .
A different sort of kingdom
A different sort of Father.
Father watch over us this now and always.
Amen.

The Sunrise is Coming

When I look at this world I feel a deep pain.
A burden in my soul.
This overwhelming sadness threatens to engulf me, to crush me with waves of despair.

Who can I trust but you?

Our Western civilization has fallen foul to false idols.
Community is replaced by screen's of various sizes.
Friendship is reduced to a virtual status.

Yet in You I find community.
In you I find friendship.
The wife you provided, the baby on the way.

The love of this world is enmity with you.
The world's love blows hot and cold.
A politics of hate, a muffled church, neighbourhoods of fear and pain -
Broken, All Broken!
But, Your light still shines.
Pockets of hope, sparkles in the night.
The Sunrise is coming!

An Autumn Prayer

Lord, we thank you for who you are. We thank you for the autumn and all the beautiful colours it brings. Thank you that in this season of change we can also experience spiritual change. We pray that more of our selfish desires would fade away. That we would become more and more like Christ. That we would be filled with your love. That we would be holy just as you are holy. We pray in the name above every name, Amen.

Love

Love.

That splendid word.

Thank you, Father.

You are graciously loving us.

You are love.

This is such a beautiful thought.
Teach us to understand it and live in the light of it.

Continue to show us how to love.
To love others and to love you.

Love.

That splendid word.

Thank you, Father.

Prayer for Peace

God of love, whose gospel is peace.

We pray that through your divine love, that peace would come.
Together we say, May Peace Prevail on earth.
In saying this we also know that we are to be your hands and feet in this world.
Therefore, loving God, enable us to be the change we wish to see in the world around us.
Let us be witnesses for peace and let our peace testimony have an impact on the whole world.
All for your glory and the improvement of the human race.

In the name of our Sweet Prince of Peace,

Amen

A Prayer of Praise

Sweet Jesus, thank you for the love you give.

Thank you for teaching us to laugh,
to cry.
Thank you for teaching us to dance,
to kneel.
Thank you for teaching us to shout,
to be silent.
Thank you for teaching us to say Hallelujah,
to say help.
Thank you for teaching us to be bold,
to be calm.

Most of all thank you for your love,
and teaching us to accept and share love.

Praise the Lord!!!
Amen

Passover

Lord,

Passover comes - Calvary is near.

You are anointed in love.

Prepared for burial - You know what is to come.

Prophet , Priest, King

Anointed for a purpose.

"Seek first the kingdom", you say to rich and poor.

In this work you find satisfaction.

Teach us to do what we can for you, with the oil of love.

A broken jar, a broken saviour.

You are sold for less.

Your servants are ridiculed.

Yet Lord, third day rising.

You are our victory!

Let freedom reign.

Amen

For those in conflict

Lord, we live in a world where violence thrives and the plight of the innocent is often overlooked. Precious peace making Father teach us love instead of hate. For those in conflicts and those fleeing, especially non-combatants, we cry out to you. Protect them Lord. Turn the violent and the evil doers who oppress them to love and non-violence we pray. Turn the hearts of humanity towards thee and thy son, the Prince of Peace, and thy gospel of love. Amen.

Welcome to Plain Prayers

Hi I'm David. I have often been inspired by Plain People, that is Anabaptists, Primitive Quakers and various Radical Reformation groups. These are often also called Peace Churches. The reasons I find them inspirational are various. Two of the main reasons are nonviolent ethics and a true sense of community. I also love that no distinction is made betwen the Social Gospel and the Evangelical Gospel. They are seen as one and the same gospel. Rightly so:

For true evangelical faith is of such a nature that it cannot lay dormant; but manifests itself in all righteousness and works of love; it dies unto flesh and blood; destroys all forbidden lusts and desires; cordially seeks, serves and fears God; clothes the naked; feeds the hungry; consoles the afflicted; shelters the miserable; aids and consoles all the oppressed; returns good for evil; serves those that injure it; prays for those that persecute it; teaches, admonishes and reproves with the Word of the Lord; seeks that which is lost; binds up that which is wounded; heals that which is diseased and saves that which is sound. The persecution, suffering and anxiety which befalls it for the sake of the truth of the Lord, is to it a glorious joy and consolation.
(Menno Simons)

I love the concept of plain prayers. Plain prayers are simple prayers to our God who is love in the name of His son, Jesus, the Prince of Peace. These prayers are not exclusively for Plain People or Anabaptists but may have themes that those of these paths can relate to in them. Whoever you are and whatever stream of the faith is closest to you I hope you can use these prayers to add a blessing to your life. You will also find the occasional mini-sermon, poem and thought on matters of life and faith here, along with other Christian content. You are most welcome to check these out and share them with others.

Feel free to post any of your own prayers in the comments section below, praying in Jesus name.
